 Pastor
Chuck has been the English Ministry and Missions pastor
at CBCGB since August 2000.
Born a Catholic, raised a liberal Congregationalist, converted
by Pentecostals, trained under charismatics, Presbyterians
and Episcopalians, a long-time Baptist, married to a Methodist,
Chuck brings considerable diversity - and occasional confusion
- to the English ministry of CBCGB.
Chuck received his first call to ministry from a Soviet communist
party cadre, who advised him to become a priest rather
than a diplomat. Specific ministry focus was later provided
by his wife Irene, who refused to marry him unless he
served in Asia. For sixteen years, they worked with
the Overseas Missionary Fellowship as lecturers at the
Singapore Bible College.
Chuck's two sons, Benjamin and Nathaniel, were both born
in Singapore and educated in government schools there.
Ben is an avid fisherman. Nathan thrives on all sports,
basketball most of all.
Chuck has written two arcane tomes: Territorial Spirits
and World Evangelization? (a critique of a bizarre missions
theory known as 'strategic-level spiritual warfare'), and
Honoring God and Family: A Christian Response to Idol Food in Chinese Popular Religion (a Christian perspective on the
Chinese shenist practice of consuming food offered to ancestors
and idols).
