Young Adult & College Minister
Ministry Description
Purpose of the Position
- To lead the ministry to young adults and college
students, promoting Christ-likeness in their relationships
with God, with one another, with the church, and with
the world
- To assist with English ministry overall, by leading
either evangelism ministry or worship ministry
- To assist with general pastoral duties, including
preaching, ordinances, weddings and funerals, counseling,
and administration.
Specific Duties
In all areas of service, the minister has two roles:
- to lead the ministry: that is, to play a significant
public role and to take primary responsibility for
ministry vision, strategy, and implementation
- to train and to engage ministry leaders and members
in all aspects of the ministry
Beyond this, specific duties are as noted below.
Young Adult & College Ministries
Currently, young adult ministry (about 70-80 in number)
consists primarily of small groups which meet for
worship, Bible study, and sharing. Several groups
meet together on church campus on Friday evenings;
others meet mid-week in various homes.
Currently, college ministry (about 25 students) meets
at church on Friday nights, for worship, Bible study
or large-group teaching, and sharing. The ministry
also includes various campus-based mid-week small
groups.
Both groups also include numerous formal and informal
ministry, outreach, service, and social events, such
as retreats, gender-based accountability groups, social
concerns activities, Sunday lunch, and sports.
The minister is responsible for:
- recruiting, training, mentoring, and caring
for small group leaders
- promoting integration of newcomers, and outreach
to the unchurched
- regularly visiting the relevant college campuses,
and the various church-site small groups
- socializing with members of the ministry
- assisting in the development of Bible studies
Evangelism Ministry
CBCGB English ministry
has a solid history of Bible teaching and missions, with
a growing engagement in mercy and justice ministries.
Despite several previous notable efforts (Evangelism Explosion
training, Alpha course, evangelism outreach events, periodic
evangelistic worship services, seeker small groups), our
efforts and our results in evangelism are mostly underdeveloped.
If responsible for evangelism ministry, the minister will:
- envision, strategize, and implement appropriate
outreach strategies
- motivate, train and mentor the congregation
in evangelism
Worship Ministry
Currently CBCGB English ministry includes musical
worship in two distinct venues: Sunday morning worship
services, and Friday evening fellowship groups. Both
use contemporary music, though with desirably different
'sounds' (with Sunday morning worship service more
inclusive, and Friday evening geared specifically
to young adults and college fellowships).
If assisting with worship ministry, the minister's primary
responsibility will be Friday night worship. He/she
will:
- envision, strategize, and implement appropriate
musical worship
- recruit, motivate, train and mentor musicians and
worship leaders
General Pastoral Duties
The young adult and college minister will have opportunity
to preach up to once a month, time and gifting permitting.
The minister will also perform the typical range of
