CBCGB Board of Elders Meeting Minutes, 2016/08/13

Present: Senior Pastor Caleb Chang, Bryan Che (Secretary), Ke-Chieh Chu (Chair), Yuguang He, David Ho, Timothy Lu, Terry Yang, Haiguo Wu (Board of Deacons [“BoD”] Representative), Shanchuan Zhao (Board of Deacons [“BoD”] Representative)

Notes:

• Elder KC opened in prayer 9:00am
• Brief sharing (thanksgiving, testimony, etc.)

• Bryan gave an update on a potential ministry opportunity
• Pastor Caleb shared about his recent west coast trip
• Yuguang shared about his recent trip to Maryland and visit with a church there

• Update to the state of the church (Pastor Caleb Chang)

• Pastor Caleb attended Eric Yang’s farewell service in CA
• CBCGB will host a funeral service for Eric Yang August 20th
• English Pastor Search still ongoing
• Elders will preach during Pastor Caleb’s sabbatical next April - September 2017
• Proposed to consider new ideas:

• Double-up Sunday worship services
• Develop “Chinese Track” of youth and children ministry

• Board of Deacon updates        (Haiguo)

• Reviewed end of year finances. Church ended with surplus, which will be distributed according to policy
• Technology Update

• Video cables updated to support higher resolution, except in the chapel. We will update the chapel in August
• Added 2 more wi-fi access points to increase network availability
• Replaced church office phone system
• English ministry website waiting for new branding to finalize
• Working to install a video conference in the church office

• Stewardship Update

• Carriage house and church office parking expansion project completed
• New playground set installed. Investigating installing additional playground plantings
• Testing solar-powered lighting in upper parking lot
• Investigating putting in new parking lots in area between church office and 151
• New HVAC system will be installed in main building

• Other

• BoD discussed how to further support Metrosouth’s raising money for their new church building
• BoD reviewing recent A/V problems in sanctuary

• Ministry Review Planning - CM Spiritual Formation, English Ministry Elder Terry/Elder Ho
• Target CM Spiritual Formation review in November and EM review in December

• Reviewed current status of potential elder candidates

• Elders and Deacons Participation Policy review and approval (Bryan and all)

• Discussed and approved Elders and Deacons Participation Policy document

• Mission Statement development process updates        (Bryan and all)

• Bryan will present on the mission statement process at the next church council meeting

• Church position on Transgender Bathroom laws/petition signing        (All)

• Discussed church position on MA transgender bathroom law and efforts to repeal the law
• The church will not take any official position on political issues and will not endorse or oppose, explicitly or implicitly, political efforts, including efforts to sign petitions. The church is focused on worship and ministry
• The church will also not prevent individual members from soliciting others on a private basis to sign petitions or participate in political events
• BoE will discuss church and Biblical views on transgender issues to develop church guidelines and policies
