CBCGB English Pastor Job Opening: The Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston (CBCGB) is seeking a pastor for its English-language congregation known as Cross Bridge.
The Church Overview
The Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston (CBCGB) is a vibrant, evangelical church with a long history of overseas missions and local outreach. Founded almost 50 years ago by Chinese immigrants in a house church, it now serves about 1,300 multicultural worshippers each week across its primary Lexington campus and a location in downtown Boston.
Cross Bridge
Cross Bridge is a 250-person English-language congregation at CBCGB’s main Lexington site. The congregation consists of many families, working professionals, and students from various local area universities.
Cross Bridge is notable for its high rate of service and giving across its members, a congregation that seeks substantive and accurate Bible teaching. The number of its own members it has sent in recent years into missions and full-time Christian ministry has also been significant.
Position Summary
This is a unique opportunity to lead a congregation at a pivotal moment in its long history: evolving beyond being just an English-speaking congregation within a Chinese Church into a multicultural ministry with a distinct identity of its own, but in concert and with the backing of the larger church as a whole.
To guide this transformation, the English Pastor will drive both existing and new ministries and be the primary communicator with the congregation as the principal preacher from the pulpit. Additionally, the English Pastor will establish the culture and practices under which Cross Bridge can become effective in welcoming, caring for, and discipling a diverse set of people, across different cultures as the congregation grows generationally.
A successful candidate for this role must possess strong preaching skills, be competent in pastoral care particularly towards families, effectively disciple and/or mentor younger staff members and lay leaders, and demonstrate strong leadership in guiding Cross Bridge through its evolution in establishing new areas of growth and ministry while identifying and addressing important areas of need. Furthermore, this candidate must be able to collaborate well with lay leadership within both Cross Bridge and the broader CBCGB church leadership to execute effectively. Cross-cultural competency and experience, particularly with American-born Chinese culture, is also desired.
Qualifications & Attributes of the Ideal Candidate
● Possess an M.Div or equivalent.
● 4 years minimum experience as an effective pulpit minister preferred, including regular preaching in English among groups or congregations similar in make-up to Cross Bridge.
● Demonstrate a clear calling to pastorship.
● Experience leading, championing, and/or starting new ministry initiatives, particularly for families.
● Experienced in working collaboratively with others in a multicultural environment. Experience in ministry among American-born Chinese is a strong plus.
● Demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
● Agree to adhere to CBCGB Bylaws, including doctrinal statement and overall church organizational structure.
